Our Curriculum
Our curriculum centres on children's interests, needs, and preferences. Children are empowered to select their own activities and learning methods, with teachers facilitating and creating environments that inspire learning and creativity. We observe how children approach and adapt activities to suit their interests and encourage intuitive thinking and self-directed fun. By introducing new elements into their play once they're engaged, we expand their experiences; we allow them to experiment, embrace setbacks, and provide support as needed—knowing that failure fosters resilience. Open-ended materials, such as natural resources, are available for children to explore, and we remain flexible in adapting to their abilities and requirements. Some adult-led activities and topics are included, such as ENCO events and occasions, giving children opportunities to learn about similarities and differences among cultures and communities. By celebrating each country's festivities, children gain an understanding of both British values and those from other nations. Our curriculum is deliberately ambitious, aiming to equip all learners—especially those who are disadvantaged or have special educational needs—with the knowledge and cultural capital necessary for success by offering diverse opportunities and experiences. We challenge children to take risks, develop independence and resilience, and set high expectations while encouraging everyone to 'have a go.' By knowing each child's next steps, abilities, and achievements, we extend their learning and fully support every child in our setting.
Our curriculum is carefully designed to guide children through key transitions, from the Cub Room to the Preschool Room and subsequently into Primary School. We prioritise the Prime areas of development within the Cub Room:
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
-
Communication and Language
-
Physical Development
In the Preschool Room, we address both Prime and Specific areas of learning, which include:
-
